World Nature Conservation Day
Happy World Nature Conservation Day ðą
Today is a day you can do your little for the environment. It's each one of our individual responsibilities to protect nature.
- Plant trees. It's simple but has a profound impact. A mature tree absorbs about 10-25 kg of CO₂ per year, depending on species, age, and growing conditions. Over its lifetime (say 40–80 years), a tree can sequester up to 1 ton or more of CO₂. A single tree can produce enough oxygen annually to support two human beings—roughly 100-260 kg of O₂ per year, though this varies widely by species and climate. Now, let's say everyone on Earth plants one single tree. That would make the oxygen released annually almost equal to the amount required for 16 billion people to survive, or even more!
- Support Wildlife Conservation Initiatives. You may donate to trusted groups like the WWF, Conservation International, etc. Sharing their campaigns on social media can raise awareness.
- Practice sustainable living. Reduce your usage of single use plastic. Choose environmental-friendly and healthier options like cloth bags. Think wisely about whether you really need the lights, fans and air conditioners on, especially when its daytime and/or a windy day.
- Promote ethical tourism. Avoid attractions that exploit animals. Respect wildlife by observing from a distance and not disturbing habitats.
- Start a garden. It is valid to say that it is quite hard to maintain a garden with busy schedules and unfit surroundings (such as people living in apartments). But it makes a difference even if you grow two to three low-maintenance plants in your balcony areas. It would also be effective if the people of an apartment come together to make a plantation drive.
