Fever is not a Disease
FEVER
People think fever is a disease and they start gobbling up pills and medicines like Pac-Man as soon as they see the thermometer showing high temperature. Have you ever done that? If yes, read this blog post. If no, still read this blog post, but I appreciate that you didn't become a huge hungry dinosaur and eat up every fever medicine next to you.
Fever is when heat formed in the body is released through the surface of the skin in the blood flow.
My biology teacher always used to remind us: Fever is not a disease, but it is a symptom of any other disease.
I read about it in our textbook to find out more and I learnt that it is not exactly a disease, but it is like a detox symptom in which heat is eliminated from our bodies.
Sometimes, if you feel any sort of other symptoms which might be a sign of any disease along with fever, you MUST consult a doctor as it might be a symptom of any other disease. But if you feel it's like the normal fever which makes you feel drowsy and lasts for 2-3 days, then you must not always take pills.
Your body has its own mechanism of healing any disease which it mostly faced before. That is why vaccines (weakened/killed/active germs) are injected into your body voluntarily to make your body practice destroying the germ to get rid of it when the disease actually occurs. This normal process can be done if the body just gets the right food and rest during the fever, although I agree sometimes due to constraints in our routine, we may not always get time to rest day in and day out, so taking a pill to reduce fever is fine. But always remember it's not the only way. To reduce fever, you can simply rest more, eat cooling foods, drink more fluids, and leave the rest of the treatment to your body.
So next time, if you find anyone about to gobble another Paracetamol pill without thinking about resting and diet, be sure to make them read this blog post.
