Career Planning
I am still deciding my career too, and I have a few ideas to do it and also some information about career to share. Now, before you continue reading, grab a notebook and a pen and come back.
Are you back? Ok, then, let’s continue.
First, I’ll tell you about my ideas to plan a career—
1: Get a journal or a rough notebook and jot down the subjects you are interested in. I will take an example of Math.
2: Draw arrows from Math and write which fields in that subject are you specifically interested in. Example, you brought out two arrows from Math– Commerce.
3: From each field, draw another arrow and write what jobs you know which are related to that particular field. For example: Math--> Commerce--> Chartered accountant, Financial Advisor, Bank Employee.
4: Now that you have your list of careers which you can choose from.
5: Find a career counsellor or any website (example- iDreamCareer) in which there are details about each job, and you can learn more about them, learnt how to become one, whether or not you are actually interested in it, etc.
6: After you find out more about them, you can cross out a few options which you don’t want to pursue. Example, you cancelled out Bank Employee and Financial Advisor.
7: You have Chartered Accountant left. You can read about more high demand/high growth jobs and add them to your list and again dig more about them.
8: As soon as you find out more, you will feel like crossing out almost everything except one. That one might be your dream career. You can just learn about how to become whatever career you chose through counsellors, etc.
In short, these are the steps—
1: Note down your interests and their respective careers.
2: Approach an expert career counselor/a career counselling app to learnt more about your interests and the options of careers you noted down.
3: Cross out the ones that you don’t feel like keeping as options and learnt how to become whichever career you choose at the end.
Now that you have one way of doing it, you can proceed reading next to the information I would like to share. Also, this is my idea of career planning, so you can change it or alter some ideas or use a completely different idea according to your convenience.
MORE ABOUT CAREER PLANNING
Most of the information I got here is from a workshop by Dev Gadhvi.
I’m sure you all know about Stone Age, Agriculture Age, Industrial Age and Information Age. During the Stone age, survival was the core of the early man’s routine. But now, survival is out of question. Now the current age is the Knowledge Zenith Age, where knowledge is might.
People are still stuck in the Information Age. Most of the parents of students are in 9-5 jobs which slowly became 24/7 jobs where they sit in front of the computer every day. But in the Knowledge Zenith Age, you don't have to sit 24/7 and work for someone else. You can start your own business, introduce your own innovations, and get income in different streams. Now let me talk about income streams:
1. Active Income: You get the money only if you work. Ex- 9-5 Jobs, taking classes, etc.
2. Passive Income: You get the money if you create a product and as people buy it, the money automatically comes to you. Ex- selling books, courses, etc.
3. Leverage Income: You get the money if you make other people do the work for you.
These are the main income types I remember from the workshop, and the workshop said that you must have all these incomes together to create good earnings.
Being an Author
If you write books, you can spread your knowledge and that's like the most well-known form of passive income. So whatever career you choose, you can also write books. At the same time, you can have a YouTube channel, a blog, podcast, courses, workshops, etc.
Keeping these points in mind, at your convenience, you can now decide your career wisely :D
