How to Improve Your English
English is the most commonly spoken language nowadays. Hence it is good to have a proper knowledge of English to communicate, express ideas and learn more.
In ikigai (生きがい) in which there is a thing called the 10,000-hour rule.
After doing the math, the Canadian journalist Malcolm Gladwell came to the conclusion that you need to spend at least 10,000 hours on something to become a master. (From the book, Ikigai for Teens: Finding Your Reason for Being by Héctor García and Francesc Miralles).
Hence, I suggest you apply the same rule to learn English, and other things too.
A few important things to do to improve in English:
- Talk to people who know English very well.
- Try to read more English articles, newspapers, books, texts out loud.
- Read the dictionary like a book (I learnt this from a classmate of mine)
- Learn the pronunciations of different words using the dictionary or the web.
- Write more in English, like articles, posts, short stories, etc. and don't worry if you make mistake, just correct them.
- Consult books, for example like The Comprehensive Grammer of Current English, which gives more insight about the usage of words and some common errors.
- Watch English Movies and listen to English podcasts/videos.
